In a melding of nationalities, the groom, from Spain, is hoisted on the shoulders of his wife's family members for a Serbian tradition. He was paraded around the reception while drinking a traditional Serbian liquor, to rousing music. It was actually quite exhausting for the fellows carrying the groom, and the event went on for several laps of the reception. It was great for photos, and fun for everyone. I've seen a lot of different traditions, but this was the first time I got to photograph this one. Adding family and ethnic traditions to weddings is a great way to personalize the day. Cookie-cutter weddings are not particularly memorable. It's great when you can add elements to the day that will make it stand out for yourself and guests (plus, they often provide great opportunities for photography.)
